Lets be clear about the number of countries in Africa.
 The Key facts are:
54 Countries are members of the African Union
55 The number of recognised states in Africa;
Morocco included.
56 The number of recognised states and
de facto states if you
include Somaliland.
For this study, we will look at only 53 countries.

Here are our areas of focus:

1.  The Anthem--composer, (music & lyrics) the year of its adoption and the
year of its replacement, if that is the case. The title or name of the
National Anthem. We also provide
the words of the anthem, translations
and transliterations to the songs or anthems at the bottom of the page.

2. Map of the country and the location of that country on the map of Africa
and other countries or body of water that share borders with each country.
We also learn the names of the country's capital, major cities in the
country and the administrative sub-divisions such as districts, provinces,
and regions.

3. The flag of that country and observing its colors in contrast to the other
flags of Africa.  Observing some of the similarities and differences.

4. A brief but stubstantive history, culture, language(s), ethnicity, migration experiences, colonial impact, date of independence, names of some
of its leaders or rulers. At times, its
political structures and economic indicators such as the per capita income of each country as well as
the country's human rights records. We also learn the pre-colonial,
colonial, and post colonial (neo-colonial) experiences of each country.

5. A few questions are posted about each country that is studied. This is designed to highlight a few significant pointers for the student to
remember about each country.
