Mr. David Karlea, who was affectionately called by friends and relatives as Uncle D. American Papay, Homeboy and David Gayflor, was born on April 5, 1953 in Sangonplay Town, Sollay Clan, Nimba County, unto the union of Mom Wonseh Bontay Karlea and the late Oldman Karlea.

David started his primary education at the Fiaplay Elementary School, Nimba County.  Upon his graduation from the elementary school, he enrolled in the Radio Village Junior High School commonly known as ELWA in Monrovia, Liberia.  David matriculated at BW Harris High School in Monrovia, Liberia, where he graduated in 1976.  He was granted a scholarship by the government of Liberia to study at the University of Nevada-Reno where he studied from 1979 to 1982.  He also enrolled in Strayer University from 2004 to 2007.  David was a well-educated and rounded man who also accepted and valued aesthetic and intellectual stimulation.  He loved Music and the Arts as much as he loved Engineering and Computer Science. 

David worked as a Technician at the Radio ELWA, in Paynesville, Monrovia, Liberia.  David later left ELWA and obtained employment at the National Port Authority in the Electrical Department as Technician in 1976.  While in the United States of America, he was enlisted into the US Army and served from 1982 to 1992.  He was awarded four army accommodations, the bronze star for bravery and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He fought the Golf War with the Chemical Engineering Battalion in Baghdad, Iraq. He was Senior Field Engineer and Group Leader, Partch Inc. from 1999 to 2009. He was IT Contractor, Liberia Law Reform Commission from November, 2012 to February, 2013.  He was finally employed by the Liberian Telecommunications Authority as Technical Engineer from February 2013 January 2014.

David Karlea is survived by his daughter Audrey Wonseh Karlea of the United States, son David T. Karlea, known as T. Boy of Accra, Ghana and sisters Mary Gbarmie and Jeanette Kikpo, brothers Joseph Karlea, Peter Karlea all of Liberia, and best high school classmate and friend Attorney Korboi Johnson of Liberia, and a hosts of uncles, aunts, nephews and friends. May his soul rest in perfect peace with the Lord.
